Cress Success!

Cress. I loved it. So full of action and wonderful people (umm…characters…) that I cannot get enough of the Lunar chronicles series. I totally wish I was on board that epic, dangerous mission to overthrow Queen Levana with them just so I could hang out and chat with Wolf, Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Kai, and of course Thorne.

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)

Cress Lunar Chronicles #3 Marissa Meyer Young Adult Fantasy Rating 5

This book introduces some new characters, but retains all of the lovable favorites. Cinder’s powers are growing and she struggles with an internal battle; do her powers define her? Can she still be a good person if she manipulates people with her powers even if it’s not for the same reason Levana does? And can she resist the power’s sometimes darker temptations?

Scarlet’s story was pretty intriguing too, though we don’t see much of her and I’m guessing she will play a larger part in the next book…however I’m not going to say anything because I don’t want to give anything away J

And Cress. Her storyline was wonderful. I loved it and could totally relate to her (and I think a lot of book lovers can to some extent). Being isolated in a satellite she created fantasies about meeting the man of her dreams…which never quite play out the way she anticipates…

All in all it was awesome…and I canNOT wait for Winter to come out!!

P.S. I just pre-ordered a SIGNED copy of Cassandra Clare’s City of Heavenly Fire from Books of Wonder Shop!!! It was a bit spendy but I feel totally worth it (:

Two Exciting Upcoming Releases…and Where You Can Find Them Signed !

So there are two books coming out in the near future that I’m super excited about and I found places to pre-order signed copies!

The Passion of the Purple Plumeria (Pink Carnation, #10)The Passion of the Purple Plumeria (Pink Carnation #10) by Lauren Willig on August 6The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus, #4)

AND

The House of Hades (Lost Heroes #4) by Rick Riordan on October 8

If you’re like me, you can’t help but pre-order the books the minute they’re available online. And since I live in the middle of nowhere with absolutely no bookstores, I don’ feel bad about it.

However, I’ve only recently discovered that it’s not very hard to find bookstores where you can pre-order copies of books that are signed! So far I’ve only ordered signed copies through The Poisoned Pen (which is amazing! The books come covered and are packaged so they won’t get damaged.) and Barnes and Noble when they offer them (however, I received a signed copy from BN with a damaged dust jacket which I wasn’t too pleased about….).

This time I’m ordering  a signed copy Passion of the Purple Plumeria from the Poisoned Pen (Willig typically does signings here) and it seems like this one is only coming in paperback which is a bit disappointing since it won’t match the rest in the series….but oh well.

And I found a signed copy of Riordan’s The House of Hades on a site I haven’t used previously. I checked into the site and seems pretty legit so we will see how the book arrives.  The site I found it on is VJ Books. If any of you have used this site before let me know!

Let me know what sites you use to pre-order books from? Where do you purchase signed or collectible books from?

All About Marissa Meyer: Author Inspiration and Signed Cinder Giveaway Time!

Marissa Meyer and Me!

Marissa Meyer and Me!

I recently had the privilege of attending Marissa Meyer’s visit and book signing at the Edina, MN Barnes and Noble.  It took a 3 hour drive navigating through a nice spring blizzard all while suffering from a nasty sinus infection, but totally worth it.  I highly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to see Marissa speak, to make sure they go!  She was humorous, informative about books to come ;), and incredibly inspiring.

I came only expecting a reading from her latest book, Scarlet, but it was so much more.  She explained about how she has grown up writing fan-fiction about the late anime show Sailor Moon and how that morphed into entering writing contests; in particular NaNoWriMo, which eventually (and I say eventually because it sounded like a long and arduous development as the writing, editing, and re-writing process takes a very long time! which was unfortunately reassuring) led to the amazing Lunar Chronicles.  Even as inspiring as all that is, the part I found the most fascinating was that Meyer found writing fanfic within an online community so beneficial. She said it was easier to share her writing online rather than show her uber “private” notebooks to people in person. This is exactly why I started blogging; the feedback from wonderful readers, to know that others are reading are what I have to say even if it isn’t the best writing.  Practice makes perfection or at least a better writer.

Marissa also talked about her upcoming books in the Lunar chronicles; Cress and Winter.  I was glad to know that the books will contain all of the characters from the previous books along with introducing some amazing new ones! A super techy Rapunzel for Cress and Winter will contain Snow White.  Plus she talked of wanting a prequel for Queen Levana and she said she has two other bookish ideas in mind.  One a standalone and another series idea; sooo exciting! And the movie rights have been sold for Cinder, to whom is unknown to us until a later date, so hopefully (please, please, please!) it will be made into a (well-done) movie!! Then she told a couple of twisted fairy tales I thoroughly enjoyed.

Cinder Marissa Meyer Young Adult Sci-Fi Rating: 4

And…Hopefully you already know that Cinder is amazing and if you don’t yet know because you haven’t gotten a chance to read it, hopefully I’ve started to convince you.  So, either way; if you already love the series or are ready to finally give it a try I’ve got a giveaway for you! A signed copy of the paperback edition of Cinder 🙂

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents 13 years of age and older. The winner will be notified via e-mail the day after the contest has ended and will have 48 hours to respond before another winner will be chosen in their place. Good Luck!
